"Incomplete" activations

I’ve always thought that an “unsuccessful” activation just doesn’t exist, if you are out there and have the radio on, you are activating.

For activators, I’m thinking about bumping the number required for “completion” to something like 20 or 25, and allowing that activation to span the entire year if necessary. So, if I’m at US-8383 and only log 14, I can go back next week, get another 6, and now I have ‘completed’ US-8383.

One of the things I don’t much like about the POTA system is this exact point.

If I go to a park, and I make some QSOs, those QSOs should count for something. The current system of “10 or more is success, 9 or fewer is failure” just creates an incentive to not go to the park and operate if condx look unfavorable. And my thinking is the awards system ought to always, always be an incentive to get out the door and get on the air.

My thinking, too. I picked 25 as a number out of my hat on the Awards Summary but I don’t know if that’s where it should end up.

Also, the program as I’m writing it removes any advantage of going to a park over and over. The other POTA™ awards cover that, and I really want to encourage people to see new places.
