Lewis & Clark Historical Trail US-4572

Current stats: 4733 activations and 242,233 qsos. The trail spans 11 states. Has there been any discussion about creating Parks for each state, i.e. break up the Trail by states? Partly to attract individual state attention but it would also open up a “marketing opportunity” for a 1 yr long “challenge event” to work each state, garner Top Dog for most activations and Hunts.

I know with NPOTA in 2016, there was an informal “challenge” to work all states for the Appalachian Trail, a fun sub-event for the east coast Activators.

The L&C Trail is nearly in my backyard, well, about 10 miles from my backyard. A tremendous amount of fascinating history. Just thinking about a new challenge….

The park i activated last weekend has it go through it (well, across the water) I wonder what the criteria is to activate it like that?

See the POTA docs: Special Considerations for Trails.

“POTA allows an activator to be located no more than 100 feet (30.5m) from the trail, possibly including parking lots or trailheads.

Your station must be located entirely within 100 feet (30.5m) of the trail. Trails can be hundreds or even thousands of miles in length! There will be many possible access points.”

Since the river is the trail, anywhere within 100’ will qualify.
