US-1833 Avalon State Park (Florida)

Yesterday I activated a small State Park on the Atlantic coast of Florida. I am RVing with my wife. Her 2 brothers and their wives who also in our group. While they sunbathed at a city beach park I was making QSO’s.

The conditions for POTA were not the greatest, but I was able to make over 40 qso’s in about 2 hours before I had to hump-it up the beach to my family.

This is a quaint little Beach Park but full of wildlife. The Gopher Turtles and an invasive colorful lizard called a Peter’s Rock Agama to name a few.

Overall had a great day doing an activity that I love.

An RV must be perfect for that sort of thing, do you basically have a shack set up in the vehicle?

RVing is wonderful. It is our home on wheels and allows us to travel all over the country and Canada. We tow a Jeep to get around. We usually stay in KOA’s and RV parks. They are not POTA activation parks. My wife drops me off or I hike/bike to POTA locations. Sometimes I hunt from the campgrounds. On our long excursions we travel with my wife’s brothers and their spouses.
